Selling our roads will…

A-roads, motorways and bypasses were built, in part, to provide a more direct route and to prevent traffic from driving through small towns and villages.

What would happen if roads are privatised?

At least two things spring immediately to mind:

1. People would find alternative routes through B-roads and the countryside.

2. Yet again our businesses would suffer with what would amount to a ‘back door’ tax.

Isn’t repairing the roads etc. supposed to be financed by road tax?

So, thanks for the idea Dave, but no we shouldn’t privatise roads.

p.s According to the P.M’s statement existing roads would not be tolled, but new ones might.

If this is the case we would be left with original infrastructure unless we wanted to pay toll, wouldn’t we?
